Idukki is a beautiful High range district which is Located in the southern part of Kerala. It is geographically known for its Mountainous Hills and Dense Forests. It has an area of about 4,479 square kilometres. The district was formed on January 26, 1972. Idukki lies between 9 0 15` and 100 21` of North latitude and 760 37` and 770 25` of East longitudes. The district is bordered by Madurai District of Tamil Nadu on the East and on the West it is covered by Ernakulam and Kottayam Districts of Kerala. In the South it is the Pathanamthitta District, while on the North it is bound by Trichur and Coimbatore Districts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu States respectively.
Idukki is one of the most nature rich areas of Kerala. The district of Idukki houses the major power projects of the state. The Hydro-electric power projects of Idukki fulfil around 66% of the state’s power needs. The district offers beautiful attractions like wildlife sanctuaries, hill stations, spice plantation tours, jungle walks and safaris, mountain treks, elephant rides etc.

There are several places of interests in Idukki which includes:

Thekkady: It is associated with the Periyar Lake, wild life sanctuaries and Tiger reserve. Thekkady is one of the most famous tourist destinations in south India. The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a wide variety of remarkable birds.

Idukki Dam: It is the first arch dam in India which is built on the Periyar River.

Munnar: It is one of the most beautiful places in Idukki which is surrounded by misty mountains and tea estates. Located at an altitude of 1800m above sea level, this hill station is the most sought after tourist destination in south India. Munnar is also famous for the exotic blue flower, Neela Kurinji which blooms once in every 12 years.

Mattuppetty: It is known for its highly specialized dairy farm- Indo Swiss Livestock project.

Waterfalls: Idukk is also having many waterfalls like Thommankutth, Thenmaarikutth, Vaalakutth.
