Map of Palakkad

Palakkad is predominantly a rural district which is formed on 1 Jan 1957. It has an area of about 4,480 square kilometres. The district lies on the latitude 10.775°N and longitude 76.651°E. To the northwest of palakkad is the Malappuram District, on the southwest it is bordered by the Thrissur District and on the east by Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. The district is divided into 5 taluks namely Alathur, Chittoor, Mannarkkad, Ottappalam and Palakkad. The head quarters is situated at Palakkad town.

We can see a lot of valleys, rivers, forests, mountain streams, hillocks, dams and irrigation projects all over Palakkad and so it is also called as the granary of Kerala. A large area in Palakkad is covered with forests. Palakkad is one of the beautiful cities in Kerala and every people can enjoy their leisure times by visiting the places there.

Tourist Attractions

Silent Valley national Park: It is a virgin forest, spread over 90 sq. Kms in the district area. It is believed that this forest take the role surviving bit of evergreen forests in the Sahya Ranges or Western Ghats.

Attappady: This has the largest tribal settlement which is spread over an area of 827 sq. Kms. Attappady is located on the north-eastern side of Palakkad

Nelliyampathy: This is an ideal place for trekkers which consists of chain of ridges cut off from one another by valleys of dark evergreen forests of the Sahya Range

Mayukadumpara: This is known as the Land of Peacocks where we can found large number of peacocks.

Lakkidi: This is is the birthplace of the famous poet, Kunchan Nambiar where his house has been preserved as a monument by the state Government as an historical place.

Ottappalam: This is a very picturesque place where it acts as the locations for several movies. It is also known as the town of festivals.

Malampuzha, Palakkad Fort, Dhoni, Meenkara Dam, Malampuzha are some other tourist destination of Palakkad.
