Map of Wayanad

Wayanad is located on the north-east of Kerala which is spread over an area of 2,131 square kilometres. By carving out areas from Kozhikode and Kannur, Wayanad district was formed on November 1, 1980. The district lies on the latitude 11.605°N and longitude 76.083°E. The headquarters of the district is Kalpetta, which is the only municipal town in the district. Wayanad is mostly a tribal area which consists of 3 taluks namely, Mananthavady, Sultan Battery , Vythiri.

Tourist Attractions

Meenmutty falls: It is one of the most beautiful and the largest waterfall in wayanad. The water is falling from a height of 300 metres in three stages and this is the main feature of this waterfalls.

Neelimala View Point: We can see a lot of hills and valleys from this view point. It must be a different experience for the spectators.

Sentinal Rock Waterfalls: It is also named as Soochippara. This is also a favourite picnic spot where water is falling from a height of 200 metres.

Edakkal caves: This place is nearby Sulthan Bathery. These are natural caves at Edakkal on which we can see new Stone Age pictorial writings on the walls.

Wayanad wild life sanctuary: The sanctuary covers a large area consisting of wide variety of animals and birds. This place is also rich in flora and fauna.

Chethalayam Falls: This is also a beautiful waterfalls but it is smaller than the other ones. This place is usually crowded by trekking enthusiasts.

Glass temple, Koottamundu: This temple is under the worship of Parshwanatha Swami of the Jain faith. We can see mirrors inside the temple and we can see the icons in the temple’s sanctum sanctorum when the wall is reflected.

Varambetta Mosque: This is the oldest mosque in Wayanad which is located near Padinjarathara.

Banasura sagar project: This has the largest earth dam in India and the second largest in Asia, which is also an ideal place for trekking.
